Firms Fail to Advertise Pension Benefits Says TUC

Most job advertisements fail to mention a pension, suggesting prospective employees fail to take it seriously, the Trades Union Congress claimed today.

Research indicated that only six percent gave any indication of the benefit, representing a drop of 0.5 percent since last year. TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said that employers offering pension schemes "should be boasting about it."

He added: "Those who don't are missing a golden opportunity to attract and retain key workers."

Pensions Minister Stephen Timms echoed the TUC's view.

But he warned the onus should not rest solely on the employer: "After all, not taking up a pension offered where there is an employer contribution is like accepting a pay cut."
