| Abstract: | Presents a series of articles on drug-related problems in geriatric nursing home patients. The collection is intended for
pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and administrators who deal with nursing home patients. The main focus is on drug-related problems (DRPs), patient and family rights and responsibilities, and care standards for optimal medication usage in older adults. Each article details methodology, references,
and results, as well as practical detection, intervention, and resolution checklists. Illustrative cases are also presented. Specific topics covered include DRPs in long term care facilities, medication errors, contraindications of drug use, nutritional problems, reduction of irrational drug
duplication, questionable drug efficacy in specific instances, laboratory tests, inappropriate dosing intervals and drug scheduling, patient refusals, and present and future research needs. (CB) (Ageline Database, copyright 1991 AARP, all rights reserved) |
