Alischa Kugel studied at Schiller International University in London,
England, and in Madrid, Spain. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in
International Relations and Diplomacy in December 2001.
After her studies, Alischa spent one year in South America to work
voluntarily with two non governmental organizations (NGO’s) in Bolivia.
Following her stay, she interned with an NGO at the United Nations in New
York, where she conducted research on international justice issues, UN
Reform and the work and influence of international NGOs.
Alischa joined GAA in 2004 with a solid understanding of the UN system,
NGOs’ operations and personal experience in the international human
rights field. Since then, she has enhanced GAA’s internship
program and revamped the “Older
Persons in Armed Conflict and other Emergency Situations”
web-section. In addition, she initiated the “Aging
Watch at the UN” program that follows UN activities in the aging
field. She also co-organized trade union seminars, fundraising events, and
thematic UN roundtables, including “Older
Persons in the 2004 Tsunami.”
GAA published her essay “Recognizing
Older Persons Needs, Rights and Contributions - the Need for a UN Convention
on Aging” in
August 2006, a "
Report on the UN International Forum on the Eradication of Poverty"
in November 2006, and the paper "Social
Protection - an Effective Tool to Fight Inter-generational Poverty"
in February 2007.
