Alischa Kugel studied at Schiller International University in London, England, and in Madrid, Spain. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Diplomacy in December 2001.

After her studies, Alischa spent one year in South America to work voluntarily with two non governmental organizations (NGO’s) in Bolivia. Following her stay, she interned with an NGO at the United Nations in New York, where she conducted research on international justice issues, UN Reform and the work and influence of international NGOs.

Alischa joined GAA in 2004 with a solid understanding of the UN system, NGOs’ operations and personal experience in the international human rights field. Since then, she has enhanced GAA’s internship program and revamped the “Older Persons in Armed Conflict and other Emergency Situations” web-section. In addition, she initiated the “Aging Watch at the UN” program that follows UN activities in the aging field. She also co-organized trade union seminars, fundraising events, and thematic UN roundtables, including “Older Persons in the 2004 Tsunami.”

GAA published her essay Recognizing Older Persons Needs, Rights and Contributions - the Need for a UN Convention on Aging” in August 2006, a " Report on the UN International Forum on the Eradication of Poverty" in November 2006, and the paper "Social Protection - an Effective Tool to Fight Inter-generational Poverty" in February 2007.
